Everyone knows our new school mascot now, and we all have mixed opinions about it. Whether you are cheering from the sidelines or walking down the hallway, a new surge of energy is coursing through ASHK.
This year marks a landmark moment in our school’s history with the official arrival of our soon-to-be-named mascot! Every great school community has a shared identity—for us, it's Go Lightning! It unites students, athletes, and faculty alike.
As ASHK continues to expand and our sports teams gain momentum on the local circuit, establishing a visible, high-energy presence became the obvious next step. The goal is simple: elevate school spirit, foster a deep sense of belonging, and make everyday school life a little more fun, especially for our younger students who thrive on the excitement of meeting friends and school assemblies.
The Lightning mascot is far more than just a costume; it is a direct reflection of who we are. "Go Lightning" is no longer just a cheer we chant from the stands—it is our collective signature.
As our athletics strengthen and our students compete across various sports, the mascot serves as a bold statement to the student community that ASHK has arrived and is ready to compete. More importantly, the mascot embodies ASHK’s core values. More specifically, our holistic development. It represents character, team unity, resilience, and pride that shapes our students both inside and outside the classroom.
If you want to see this new mascot in action, you won’t have to wait for a long time. We can expect to see the mascot at the following events:
School Assemblies: Whenever we have a House Assembly, expect to see the mascot bring house spirit to the event
Sports Competitions: Any Sporting events like Sports day, Football Matches etc, you can see the mascot pumping up our student athletes
Open Day: Either it be Open Day or Open House, Parents and students alike are welcome to say hi to our mascot!
Cultural Celebrations: Chinese New Year, Christmas, and other holidays, you’ll see the mascot participating in some festivities.
Even though we are all happy about this news, we also need to be considerate to our people inside of it. Designing a mascot that looks powerful while remaining cute & functional takes careful planning. Visually, the design captures the sharp, energetic aesthetic of a lightning bolt. But the favorite feature might actually be what is on the inside: to keep the performer comfortable during high-energy routines and warm Hong Kong days, the costume features a built-in internal fan that blows cool air throughout the suit to keep our students comfortable.
As the new mascot prepares to make its rounds across campus, one thing is certain: the ASHK community is charged up and ready for years to come. Keep your eyes peeled at the next event—the Lightning is about to strike!
